Poster Competition

Part of the reason for us wanting to undertake this ride was to get ourselves fit and healthy. Cycling is fantastic exercise and suitable for all ages. It is not always easy to find safe places for cycling even in Cornwall with its wonderful off road trails and quiet county lanes to explore. We believe that it is important to teach children basic road safety skills and traffic awareness. In the light of recent tragedies where children have been killed or seriously injured in cycling accidents, we thought it would be an appropriate time to promote the benefits of always wearing a cycle helmet when out cycling and hopefully to encourage more children to cycle to school and improve their fitness.

Ricci from the Bike Chain in Redruth, who is our cycling guru, has kindly donated a bike as the prize in our competion. We would like children to design a poster promoting the benefits of wearing a helmet when out cycling. It should be A4 size, in colour, clearly marked with the child's name, age and school on the reverse. The winner will receive a brand new bike and the 2 runners up will be awarded with helmets of their choice. The prize winning poster will be scanned, courtesy of St Austell Printing Company and available for schools to download and print off as a wall poster for educational purposes. Any school wishing to participate, please contact us by submitting the form below and we will contact you with instructions. Obviously we are trying to raise funds for the CT scanner so we are proposing a 50p entry charge per poster or if the school prefers, a non-uniform day or other fund raising idea. We are more than willing to pop into your schools with our bikes and some pictures from the Radiology unit showing what the scanner does if you think it will help. Closing date for entries is 30th April 2006 when we set off on our trip, which we anticipate taking 2-3 weeks (50-70 Miles per day). We will be sending a daily photo and diary to our website and if you would like to follow our progress with your classes, look on the Diary page.

We look forward to hearing from you.
